Valetine's Sugar Cookies

HC and I made Valentine's Sugar Cookies today. I used an old recipe that my mother always used. Of course you can cut and decorate for any season or time of the year. The recipe comes from her well worn The good Housekeeping Cook Book, he 7th Edition, published in 1944. It has a tan with green and darker tan plaid cover. The nice thing about this recipe is that it takes oil, so you could now use the Enova soybean oil that is healthier.
The recipe is the Basic Recipe for Sugar Cookies:
3/4 cup granualted sugar
1/2 cup melted shortening or salad oil
2 eggs, beaten
1 teas vanilla extract
2 cups all purpose flour
1 teas cream of tarter
1/2 teas baking soda
1/2 teas salt.
Blend the sugar and oil. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add to the wet mixure, mixing well. Chill until easy to handle (I did over night). Roll to 1/8" thickness and cut with cookie cutters. Place on greased baking sheet. sprinkle with colored sugar or cinnamon sugar, if desired.
Bake at 375F for 10-12 minutes. Cool on a rack and store in a tight container.
(I have gone back to the old fashioned metal cans with lids, as the tupperwear style containers, just don't keep the things as well).
