Family & Sour Cream Raisin Pie

This photo is the family, complete with all 5 children.
Since the pie crust was in the last post, I have included the old time favorite of many, Sour Cream Raisin Pie. (My family topped the Cream Raisin Pie with Meringue, rather than the whipped cream, but then we didn't have milk cows!)

ENJOY!

Summer Pies & County Fairs

Pies and county fairs just go hand in hand! We have been enjoying fresh peaches, apricots and cherries from Grand Junction, so I thought it might be a good idea to include this mixer pie crust recipe from Dagmar's recipe box. With county fair coming up, there are always lovely pies entered AND you can enjoy homemade pie at the church lunch stands at the fair.

The following photo is Doris modeling her dress (gloves hat and all!) she made for 4-H competition(the 4 "H's" are: head, heart, hands and health for those of you non 4-H ers).

Summer Puppies

Ebleskiver

The photo below is Ken with his bike and a couple puppies. Fun summertime for a boy on the farm!

I've put 2 recipes for Danish Ebleskiver in this post. The first is written in Danish and Deb P thinks it may have been Aunt Ellen who wrote this recipe. The litle drawing of the Ebleskiver pan at the bottom is fun!

This recipe in English is another that Dagmar cut out of the OPPD magazine and was in her recipe box. We often treated B & B guests to Ebleskiver, along with Danish fruit strips for breakfast. (Need to make these for the kids one of these days!)

More fun Summer photos &

Spaghetti Sauce

This photo is Alice with one of the family dogs. Ken thinks it might have been Benny, but isn't sure. They named the dog Benny because the folks they got him from were Bennets.

This recipe is Alice's for Spaghetti sauce.
(Suggestion for easy suppers:
I have started browning huge amounts of hamberger with the spices and onion and freeze portions in freezer zip lock bags, to use in recipes that call for browned hamberger. It really makes it much easier and there is always something quick and handy to make with it, for instance this spaghetti sauce recipe would work well and be really fast to prepare.)

Summer Pets:

Rags & Belinda

This cute photo is "farmer Ken" as a young boy with one of the pet racoons the family had. The mother racooon had Rags and Belinda in the threshing machine, early in the season. Came time to use the machine and the babies were rescued by the kids and gave hours of entertainment and friendship. Belinda got run over after a time and Rags went back to the wild. Doris tells that he would return once in a while to eat in the barn with the cats and one day he attacked Rasmus' hand when he went to turn on the light switch.
