Scenic Colorado Tour

A final scenic drive through western Colorado, on a clear cloudless day: before returning to Nebraska. This photo is on the Dallas Divide with the rugged San Juan mountains covered in snow in the background. The scenic byway continues through Norwood to the Delores River.

This photo is the Delores River canyon. The interesting thing in this photo is the remnants of a wooden flume, built in the 1880's; that carried water to the mining operations. The flume is hanging on the canyon wall about half way up (or down!). It was an engineering marvel that carried about 23 million gallons of water a day!
We continued to Gateway to have lunch at the new resort, and then continued on up the sceninc byway 141 to highway 50.
